What you shoul consider in advance prior to a nose job

1. A nose job is one of the most difficult aesthetic procedures. It is not an emergency operation, take your time with the decision.
2. Every surgically operated nose presents small irregularities and deviations from being perfect. It is even challenging to achieve a near-perfect nose, so think carefully about what you really want. Are you looking for an improvement in your appearance or are you looking for perfection?
3. Surgical competence and skills alone are not always a warranty of success. Very thick skin, soft cartilage or a tendency to heal poorly can negatively influence the surgical result in the long term, so that deviations from the desired result can also occur at a later stage, which is not dependent on the surgery.
4. Following the surgery, the nose is swollen for a long time. Despite all the useful or less useful remedies to reduce the swelling, your nose will be swollen for several months and there is no magic remedy that can effectively speed this process up. You are supposed to exercise patience.
5. A well-done nose looks natural. It blends in with the face and does not stand out or disappear into the face. It should not avert attention from your eyes.
6. There is no such thing as the one ideal nose shape for everyone. The noses of some beauty icons from beauty magazines or TV would be completely out of place in your face. One nose shape will not suit everyone.
7. No operated nose is perfect, however, an experienced nose surgeon can bring it very close to your ideal. The likelihood of a successful operation is significantly lower without the appropriate training, experience and detailed surgical analysis.
8. Revision surgery is sometimes performed because of very small irregularities, despite the risk of deterioration of the aesthetics or functionality. The desire to have a perfect nose can turn into obsession. In many cases, post-corrective surgery is much more complicated than the initial operation and involves numerous possible complications. Therefore, think twice if the revision surgery is really necessary before you end up wishing for your old nose back.
9. A rhinoplasty surgeon cannot reconstitute your nose, he/she can only remodel ( work on ) what has already been there. There are limits to nasal surgery that have little to do with the surgeon's level of expertise. Be realistic.
10. A nose job is not going to change your life completely. You will be rather disappointed if you think that a nose job is going to radically change the direction of your life. Your nose is only a part of you. While some patients seek perfection in the shape of their nose in order to begin a new life, they would be better advised to look elsewhere for the key to happiness.

Aesthetic corrective nose surgery: Is straightening the nose and removal of the hump all that is important?

A successful nose surgery very often depends on the clarification of the goals by the patient and the doctor, the comprehension of the possibilities and a detailed, open discussion. We are not talking about " the purchase of a new nose", but about a medical dialogue, which is necessary prior to every operation, and which will be pursued with you by every experienced nose specialist.

First of all, we would like to know what motivates you, why do you want to have your nose changed and why at this particular time? Further relevant questions include what is expected of the surgeon and whether there is a realistic assessment of the healing process.

The pressure of the so-called social media is intense, and many young people were made to feel that the only true and valuable life is the life that looks like the cover of a glossy magazine, and only the most beautiful people represent the normality. Photoshop faces become the reference standard and thus at the same time the source of one's own frustration. The new definition of failure is to have an ordinary face. This artificially created perfection is the new normality, and comparing yourself to it is the beginning of almost every misfortune... The nose is the central point on everyone's face and therefore considered responsible for great dissatisfaction, insecurity or failure. There are patients who assume that a nose job will provide them with access to a presumably better world and who believe that it will guarantee them success in finding a partner or in pursuing their professional career. They believe that the crucial puzzle piece on the way to happiness is nothing but the nose. Other patients are in the process of separating from their long-term partner and instantly seek to beautify themselves as they believe that their appearance was the sole reason for the break-up. Still some try to attract an adequate replacement for the lost partner as quickly as possible by means of facial optimization.

Ask yourself: what is actually my motivating factor for a nose job?

The decision to have a nose job should be well-considered and in no way caused by external circumstances such as family pressure, separation or alleged bullying. A nose job should be more of a personal desire to look better, though not perfect, out of a sound sense of vanity. This operation requires a lot of inner strength and should not be performed during emotionally turbulent times.

Furthermore, as a patient, you should get rid of the idea that a surgeon can satisfy your almost every wish when it comes to modifying your nose. Due to anatomical reasons, we are not able to reshape every nose into your dream nose, and therefore it is necessary to discuss the limits in detail with your surgeon. The capabilities of medicine are not infinite,  and this certainly applies to rhinoplasty. 

Healing is a very important issue: we can control the surgery, but not the way your nose heals. This is a process that requires several years and minor changes, like scarring, can always occur, even in the fittest  hands of an expert. 

Do you expect perfection, which is almost non-existent in nature, or can you accept one or two minor irregularities?

We only operate on noses where a significant change in appearance can be expected - i.e. we do not operate on noses with minimal deviations from the ideal.

Is it easy for you to breathe through your nose, can you smell properly, do you have frequent sinus infections, are you aware of any allergies?

The nose is not only there to look attractive, it has many functions: we breathe through the nose, we can recognize smells and the air we breathe in is warmed and moistened in the nose. Therefore, it is important to know whether you are breathing enough in or not. If not, do the problems occur mainly at night or during the day and on which side of the nose? How often is one side and then the other obstructed? Do you have a strong secretion or rather a dry nose? The nasal septum is crooked and the nasal conchae are enlarged in many patients, which can lead to one or two-sided nasal obstruction.

The mucous membranes of the nose are very susceptible to allergic reactions such as swelling, sneezing, constant secretion and itching. Do you know whether or not you are allergic, and if yes, what you are allergic to?

Do you have problems with the sinuses, for example in the form of pain in the jaw or forehead area during infections? Have you already had a computed tomography examination (CT / sectional imaging of the paranasal sinuses)?

These are all very important indicators for us to know how your nose is functioning. In many cases, the nasal obstruction and sinus problems can be corrected at the same time in the course of an aesthetic surgery. It is important to understand that aesthetic surgery should be performed in such a way that it does not affect the functioning of the nose.
